2.4. A guide for setting up action plans and frameworks

To encourage students and educational staff to drop baggage that prevents the skills development and learning of VET students it is important to set up an action plan and frameworks. When making the action plan and its frameworks it is important to make sure that is has reachable and realistic goals and objectives and that it focuses on inclusiveness.

Define what do we want to achieve with our inclusiveness plan. What are our goals and objectives? Be specific and measurable so that you can track progress and adjust your plan accordingly.  Conducting a diversity and inclusion assessment of our organization’s current diversity and inclusion practices. Identify any gaps and areas where improvement is needed. This assessment can be done through surveys, focus groups, or interviews with employees, students, stakeholder.

We should develop and action plan based on goals, objectives, and assessment, develop a comprehensive action plan that outlines the steps we will take to create a more inclusive workplace. This plan should be specific, measurable, and achievable.

Identification of a key stakeholder is an important part of this action plan and this is why you need to identify key stakeholders within our organizations and schools who will be responsible for implementing the action plan. These stakeholders should be diverse and represent different levels of the organization or schools.

We should never forget about the training and the education when setting up an action plan. There is a need to provide training and education to all employees and students to raise awareness of the importance of inclusiveness and how to implement it in the workplace and school. This can include training on unconscious bias, cultural competence, and communication skills.

To ensure the quality and usability of the action plan you need to regularly monitor progress and evaluate the effectiveness of your inclusiveness plan. Adjust the plan as needed based on feedback and data to ensure that you are achieving your goals. Inclusiveness is an ongoing process and requires continuous effort and commitment. By setting up a well-structured action plan or framework, we can create a roadmap for promoting inclusiveness within our organizations and school and make meaningful progress towards implementing our inclusiveness goals.

When creating the action plan, we recommended it to include at least the following sections to ensure clarity and user-friendliness:

Expectations: This section focuses on understanding and addressing the expectations that individuals have. We need to acknowledge that our perceptions shape the reality we create. By recognizing and addressing these expectations, we can foster a more inclusive environment that will encourage and support students to drop negative baggage that are connected to existed expectations.

Emotions: Emotions play a significant role in an individual’s sense of belonging and social identity within a group. This section emphasizes the importance of recognizing and understanding the emotions that individuals experience at school, in a classroom, or when performing given tasks and assignments. By promoting emotional well-being and a positive sense of belonging, we can enhance inclusiveness and support students to drop emotional baggage that might affect them negatively.

Communication: Effective communication is essential for building an efficient and inclusive team and creating a trusting and safe environment for students. It is not merely a simple action-reaction model but a complex transactional process. This section highlights the significance of communication as a system and its impact on inclusiveness.
