3.8. Collaborative Approach: Establishing Work Dynamics, Roles, and Solution

There are lots of strategies we can use to help staff and students to achieve success but it’s not a one size fits all approach. Different problems require different answers. By focusing on establishing work dynamics, roles, and solutions, educational staff can create an environment that encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and mutual support among themselves and the students they teach.

To achieve a collaborative approach, various strategies can be implemented. You, as an educational staff member, should promote open communication and active participation among your colleagues and the students.  This involves encouraging colleagues and students to share ideas, opinions, and experiences. By creating a safe and inclusive space for dialogue, you can collectively explore different perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Assigning specific roles and responsibilities is another effective method. By assigning diverse roles, such as team leaders, researchers, presenters, and facilitators, students and staff can develop and showcase their individual strengths. This not only promotes a sense of ownership and accountability but also fosters the development of essential teamwork skills, such as effective communication, coordination, and delegation.

Furthermore, providing structured opportunities for collaborative problem-solving is essential as it enhances critical thinking and nurtures creativity and innovation. It is important to facilitate and guide this collaborative process by offering support, feedback, and mentoring to students and fellow colleagues.

An example: To enhance the We-approach VET providers can create, for example, a working group that consists of educational staff end students that regularly meets to discuss problems connected to students dropping out of education and the reasons behind it. For this group to be successful it is important that all members know their roles, responsibilities and tasks. Members of this working group can consist of:

– Tutors,
– Educators
– Support workers
– Parents/family
– Other educational staff
– Line managers
– Support workers
